Sziget Announces Ed Sheeran as Headliner of Its 2019 Line-Up

Fanni Kaszás 2018.09.20.

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been announced as the headliner of Hungary’s 2019 Sziget Festival. Sheeran will open the six-day festival on 7 August.

He even sent a short video for his Hungarian fans:

Tamás Kádár, head organizer of the festival, said:

We have been negotiating with Ed Sheeran and his management for over a year now, and we are really happy that we could announce his name this early. It’s a special honor that Sheeran will play at Sziget and will only perform at one other festival aside from his arena concerts.

This summer, around 500,000 people attended the 26th Sziget Festival to see headliners Kendrick Lamar, Gorillaz, Arctic Monkeys and Lana Del Rey, among others. Hungary Today spent time on the Island of Freedom checking out the crazy outfits, enjoying the last concerts in the dust and rain and partying at the amazing end-show. We also asked some foreigners at the Sziget Festival what kind of news – if any – they’ve heard about Hungary and whether they believe the country is on its way to becoming a dictatorship.

Next year’s Sziget Festival will take place between 7-13 August on the Hajógyári island in the middle of Budapest. Early Bird tickets go on sale on 1 October 2019.
