The US embassy in Budapest has announced partnership with the Central European University (CEU), headquartered in the Hungarian capital, through a $30,000 grant agreement to support a Hungarian Sustainable University Network (SUN) of student environmental groups in Hungary. The announcement comes after representatives of the US State Department put their signatures to the financial support agreement.
Student environmental groups from 10 higher education institutions across six cities in Hungary will work together to exchange information, develop leadership skills, and provide training on general environmental issues for student leaders and groups. The goal is to inspire cooperation and environmental stewardship on issues such as climate change, sustainable development, recycling, and energy efficiency.
Logan Strenchock, who is responsible for the CEU’s sustainable development programme, said undergraduate clubs at several Hungarian universities were engaged with the topic, and the SUN would coordinate and stimulate initiatives within these groups.

“Students in the United States and around the world have led efforts to protect the environment and honor the natural beauty of their countries. Students in Hungary are playing an active part in that proud tradition, and the Sustainable University Network will enhance their efforts.”, US ambassador to Hungary said on the initiative.
