Summer in Hungary: Révfülöp

Hungary Today’s new, recurring series ‘Summer in Hungary’ takes a look at some of the best places to enjoy the summer weather and spend your holidays. We will collect some of the most beautiful and fun Instagram pictures, from a relaxing weekend at the beaches of Lake Balaton and Velence, the Balaton Cross Swimming and the Kékszalag Regatta, to rooftop bars, confectioneries, and wild parties at the best Hungarian music festivals. This week we are exploring Révfülöp.

Révfülöp is located in the picturesque natural environment of the northern shore of Lake Balaton, at the foot of the 274 meter-high Fülöp hill, with a population of nearly one and a half thousand people. The first written mention of the town dates back to 1211, but according to archaeological findings it has been inhabited since the Roman times. After the Second World War, the town and its surroundings became a popular northern shore resort of Lake Balaton.

One of the most popular activity for many visitors is the annually organized cross-Balaton swim which takes place on the 5,2 kilometer-long distance between Révfülöp and Balatonboglár. Among the many natural sights of the village one of the most notable is the panorama of Lake Balaton that unfolds from the Fülöp Hill. People visiting Révfülöp can also experience the spectacular view of the landscape from the Fülöp Hill lookout tower, built to commemorate the millennium of the founding of the Hungarian state. Another amazing place to see is the Europe promenade, running alongside the shore of Lake Balaton. It offers a great opportunity for visitors to relax and watch the thousand faces of the lake.
