Although the summer is, Hungary Today’s ‘Summer in Hungary’ series is not over yet. For probably the last warm weekend of the year, we are traveling back to Lake Balaton one last time, until next summer. During the summer months, we took a look at some of the best places to enjoy the summer weather and spend the holidays. We collected some of the most beautiful and fun Instagram pictures- from a relaxing weekend at the beaches of Lake Balaton and Velence, the Balaton Cross Swimming and the Kékszalag Regatta, to rooftop bars, confectioneries, and wild parties at the best Hungarian music festivals. This last week we are exploring Balatonfüred on the southern shore of Lake Balaton.
The story of this area started in the 19th century, when the local bath association started its activity and the former Földvárpuszta evolved into a nice resort place. The development of the city is still ongoing, and after the century old villas, port, and promenade were reconstructed, a new lookout tower and an almost hundred kilometer long bicycle road system were built. The resort is really popular among Hungarians and tourists alike, mainly because of the countless leisure activities, the beautiful old villas, natural beauties like the loess-covered hill and its parks with beautiful flowers, as well as historical heritages such as the Celtic path. The castle Balatonföldvár got its name from, was built in the late Iron Age, during the occupation of the Celts.
