Hungary Today’s new, recurring series ‘Summer in Hungary’ takes a look at some of the best places to enjoy the summer weather and spend your holidays. We will collect some of the most beautiful and fun Instagram pictures- from a relaxing weekend at the beaches of Lake Balaton and Velence, the Balaton Cross Swimming and the Kékszalag Regatta, to rooftop bars, confectioneries, and wild parties at the best Hungarian music festivals. This week we are exploring Alsóörs, the ‘Balaton Riviera,’ by the southern shore of the lake.
Alsőörs, the northern ‘Balaton Riviera’ with its nice beaches, is an ideal destination for families with small children, but is also the home of the famous Harley-Davidson Open Road Fest, a rock and motorbike festival, held this summer for the 20th time. As for the past twenty years, Alsóörs’ name has been associated with the festival, and three years ago, a statue of a wooden Harley marked the center of town. Last year, a biker was added to the statue and this summer the work took its final shape by putting a female passenger on the two-wheeler as well. Its numerous wine-shops and cellars in the vineyards are built on foundations from the Roman age. The village also has a 13th century church showing Gothic and Baroque stylistic markings, as well as the Gothic mansion from the Middle Ages, commonly known as Török House.
