Istvan Tarlos, the Mayor of Budapest, has revealed the starting date of renovations to the M3 Metro Line.
Work on the south part of the metro line is slated to begin on July 15th, 2017 and will last until September 30th, 2018.
The renovation of the middle line is planned for the period from October 1st 2017 to September 10th 2018. The third phase of the metro line’s reconstruction will take place is from October 2018 to September 2019.
It currently seems that events are proceeding according to the original plans, and that bids will fit into the budget of 137.5 billion forint (roughly 436 million euro). In response to repeated breakdowns on the M3 Metro Line, members of the opposition party Democratic Coalition (DK) have been placing stickers around metro stations with the mayor’s personal number and email address, a way of placing blame for metro problems at Tarlos’ feet.
Mayor Tarlos responded to this by saying: “The comrades are trying quite hard to make something up; I understand that, but I won’t give anyone the pleasure by filing an official complaint. Responding to these attacks would be beneath my dignity”
The mayor also mentioned the accident which happened last week on the M2 Line, but told journalists he cannot say anything official until the investigation has been concluded.
