Following speculations about English star club Arsenal FC’s offer for Dominik Szoboszlai, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona have also joined the already numerous scouts keeping an eye on him, and who might want to sign him in the near future.
Most recently, German sports site sport-90.de mentioned Borussia Dortmund’s interest, while according to Catalan Sports.es, Szoboszlai has also appeared on Barcelona FC’s radar, in addition to other top clubs like Bayer Leverkusen, Lazio, Bayern München, and Juventus FC.
Not only is Szoboszlai’s price going up -Transfermarkt.de estimates his current price is 12 million euros, making him the second most valuable Hungarian player- but his contract ties him to Salzburg until 2022. As a result, his signing might be quite expensive. Accordingly, speculations arose that Arsenal offered him 9 million euros. According to Austrian site spox.com, however, RB Salzburg asked for 17 million euros, with the additional condition that Szoboszlai can only join the London side after the Champions League group stage, in which the Austrian club finally qualified after several years of failing at the last step.
In reaction to the latest news, Szoboszlai’s manager confirmed to sports daily Nemzeti Sport, that “a number of clubs (including top ones), are indeed interested in signing him.” “But our goal hasn’t changed,” he added, “Dominik still foresees his future in Salzburg. He would like to win the (Austrian) championship once again, make a difference in the Champions League and the Hungarian national team. Dominik is on the right track now, and we want to carry on this path. This is Hungarian football’s global, and Dominik’s personal interest.” That Szoboszlai would probably stay in Salzburg for the time being seems to confirm that on Wednesday, the club sold his post rival, Xaver Schlager.
