Myriad genres of music mingle in the air with animal sounds within the summer concert series in the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. This summer, from the 6th of July through the 24th of August after the sun dips below the horizon, every Wednesday night the zoo turns into an outdoor stage hosting variety of evening concerts. You can listen to pop, jazz and folk tunes through the live performances of the annual Evening Concerts.
The first on the stage was the Budapest Klezmer Band, which opened the summer concert series playing traditional Jewish music on the 6th of July at the Main Entrance Stage of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. Next week’s performer, the celebrated musical actress Kátya Tompos, takes the audience on a magical journey from East to West, with songs performed in English, French, Bulgarian, Russian and Hungarian. The Budapest Bár’s bombastic Gypsy-music extravaganza and the famous Tamás Bényei and the Grampohonia Hot Jazz Orchestra will play during August on the stage. Those who want tickets to this closing show should hurry up, because concerts usually sells out.
If you are looking for a cozy afternoon outdoor concert in the summer nights, don’t hesitate to visit the Zoo. All of the performances start at 8:30pm, but visitors are welcome to enjoy special after-hours access to the zoo premises beginning at 7pm, when guests are invited for a walk around the garden. Tickets costs 3500 forints, or approximately 10 euros, per person.
