Hungary’s National Election Committee (NVB) on Wednesday allotted former MSZP (Socialist Party) lawmaker József Tóbiás’ vacated parliamentary mandate to László Szakács.
Last month, Tóbiás announced his decision to return his mandate effective November 1, explaining that he would have to spend more time abroad because his son’s respiratory illness forced the family to move away from Hungary.
Because Tóbiás won his parliamentary seat from the Socialist-Párbeszéd alliance’s national list, the party had the right to name his replacement.
Szakács will take his oath as lawmaker once the NVB’s decision becomes official.
