The opposition Socialists are asking the government to pay a 13th-month family allowance bonus to every family with a child or children to help them start the school year in September, a party lawmaker said on Saturday.
Half of Hungary’s children are raised by families in the three lowest-decile income groups of society, Lajos Korózs told an online press conference on Facebook.
“Every fourth or fifth child in Hungary lacks proper support and appropriate housing conditions, or proper diet which is unacceptable,” said Korózs, who is the head of parliament’s welfare committee.
It is also a burden to many families to ensure conditions for digital education which might restart in preparation for a second wave of the coronavirus epidemic, he said.
