A court in Nyíregyháza on Thursday handed a suspended prison sentence to János Balogh, head of the National Roma Self Government (ORO), on charges of bribery.
According to the indictment, Balogh approached a company in March last year and offered to pay 3.5 million forints against an invoice for fictitious event organisation services and a kick-back of 2.9 million forints. The company’s representative, however, rejected the offer and filed a criminal complaint.
Balogh, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to one year imprisonment suspended for two years.
The ruling is not binding.
