Fidesz-KDNP member of parliament will focus on pushing through legislation helping out forex loan holders, said parliamentary group leader Antal Rogán on Wednesday. The dispute between banks and the government has been ongoing for several months now, with many cases taken to court, although with little success so far.
“Each client will be reimbursed for any unfairly collected amounts,” said Rogán, adding that such settlement, in which banks are required “to account for every single forint in connection with all retail loan agreements” is unprecedented in Europe.
Rogán spoke at a three-day Fidesz fraction meeting in Tapolca, where MPs are to discuss details of the reimbursement, and make sure that debtors do not “suffer a minute of delay” in receiving their payments. Decisions on the conversion of hard currency-denominated loans to Hungarian forint-based ones will be made towards the end of winter when the settlement process is completed, added Rogán.
The group leader also spoke about the government’s plans regarding the next utility cuts program, utilization of EU development funds, and touched upon the sensitive issue of Ökotárs foundation. According to Rogán, “there is an opportunity for each to seek legal remedy for any move by the authorities”.
