Bitterly Cold Weekend Coming to Hungary

By Robert Velkey // 2017.01.06.

According to an old Hungarian saying, “The wolf does not eat the winter” . Lately, however, wolf, does not even lick the winter  in Hungary, because its tongue most likely would freeze. According to the National Meteorological Service’s forecasts (and to our senses) we are about to experience an extremely cold weekend.

Although Hungarian low-temperature records will not be broken, it will be between -15 °C and -20 °C, and temperatures may even drop below -20 °C. Today the Meteorological Service announced a warning for most parts of the country. It will be coldest in Heves, Pest, Hajdú-Buhar counties, where first level extreme temperature warnings have been issued.

In the eastern-part of the country it might be colder than -20 °C because of the forecasted wind-stirred snow and snowdrifts.

Prepare your gloves and scarfs because even in daytime the average temperature will be between -5 °C and -12 °C in Hungary.
