Rétvári: Free Textbooks to All Students from September

All students of Hungary’s primary and secondary schools will be provided textbooks free of charge from the next academic year on, Bence Rétvári, state secretary at the human resources ministry, told reporters on Monday.

Rétvári said that the textbooks for 1.2 million students would cost the central budget an annual 13.5 billion forints (EUR 38.2m).

The state secretary noted that families have so far paid up to 20,000-30,000 forints (EUR 57-85) for school books for each of their children, and said that the measure was part of the government’s family assistance policy.
