Research Commissioned by the Budapest Airport Claims Only 300 Suffer from Noise Pollution

Gábor Sarnyai 2019.04.05.

Research commissioned by the Budapest Airport shows that traffic created by the Liszt Ferenc Airport affects just 300 residents. Independent experts claim the numbers are much higher, however.

According to research conducted by Vibrocomp Kft. in 2018, 200 people in the 17th district and 100 people in the 18th district were affected by noise pollution generated by the airport.

Contrary to this claim, President of the Association for Cultural Aviation Zoltán Frik insisted that hundreds of thousands of families in Budapest suffered due to the traffic. The President claims the noise pollution not only affects the aforementioned districts but also Zugló, Kőbánya, Angyalföld, Óbuda, Budatétény, Kispest and the surrounding territories of Vecsés and Üllő, as well.

The disparity is a result of Vibrocomp only examining areas which reported noise levels above the threshold. However, research carried out last year revealed that airport traffic in district 17 is in violation of what constitutes a healthy environment.
