KSH: Rate of Natural Decline Up in January

The rate of natural decline in the population increased in January, with a 9.8 percent decrease in births and a 9.6 percent increase in deaths compared with the same month in 2020, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Thursday.

In January, 7,302 children were born, 793 fewer than in the same period last year, while 12,916 people died, 1,136 more than in January 2019. The population loss for January was 5,614, compared to 3,685 in January last year.

Meanwhile, the number of marriages somewhat decreased from January last year, by 83 to 2,780 couples in the first month of 2021.
