President János Áder and Defence Minister Csaba Hende observed a NATO military exercise at Várpalota, in western Hungary. The exercise codenamed Capable Logistician 2015 (CL15), the largest of its kind in logistics capabilities of 32 NATO members and partner countries, began on June 1 and is running until June 26 in the Bakony Combat Training Centre, the defence ministry said earlier.
CL15 aims to standardise the logistics support and procedures of the international forces in line with NATO guidelines, as well as strengthen cooperation among partner states. Sorin Ducaru, assistant secretary general of NATO, said modern logistical capabilities are fundamentally important in military warfare today. During the exercise, intelligent energy solutions were in special focus, he said.
The exercise involving 1,800 local and foreign troops and 600 pieces of equipment clearly indicates that Hungary is a committed ally to NATO, Hende told a press conference at the site. Csaba Hende also said that Hungary’s defence budget would grow by 48 billion forints (EUR 154m) next year. Accordingly, the defence portfolio will have 299 billion forints at its disposal in 2016.
