Population Decline Slows between Jan-Apr

Hungary’s population decline slowed between January and April compared with the same period last year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.

According to preliminary figures, the number of births (28,476) was down by 1.7 percent while the number deaths (47,412) was 4.4 percent lower in the surveyed period than last year, bringing the population decline ratio down by 8.1 percent (1,680).

The number of marriages decreased by an annual 2.7 percent.
