Tamás Székely 2014.11.28.

On a three-day official visit to South Korea, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with business people on potential investment projects in Hungary, including top executives of car manufacturer Hyundai. The prime minister also consults with senior managers of KDB Bank and the tyre company Hankook. On the second day of his visit, the Viktor Orbán will meet President of South Korea Park Geun Hye.

The South Korean companies can boost the development of Hungary’s car industry, foreign minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed after talks with his counterpart Yun Byung-se. Hungary is interested in South Korean investments by medium-sized companies since they export high-tech in both the car industry and electronics, he said, adding that talks are under way concerning several projects. Korea also seeks to intensify cooperation with the Visegrad Group. The option of holding a summit with the heads of state of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, in addition to Korea, was discussed accordingly, Péter Szijjártó told.

In a lecture on Europe’s future and geopolitical challenges given at Hankuk University, Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán said that the European Union’s new leadership was well placed to kick-start economic growth in the bloc as well as improving its competitiveness and world economic ranking. Europe’s demographic problems, seen as a “taboo” topic due to “political correctness”, will be solved by promoting policies good for families rather than by facilitating immigration, he said. As for Hungary, its government is patriotic, Christian and democratic, and strives to build a labour-based society, Orbán insisted.
