The Metro line 1 of Budapest was the 3rd running underground line in the world and the 2nd in Europe (The 1st was in Chicago, USA; and the 2nd was in London, UK). Obviously, it is the most beautiful subway line in the Hungarian capital as it is the UNESCO world heritage listed Millenium Underground Railway of Budapest.
On the 26th of October, the General Assembly of Budapest decided about the plans of the extension and expansion of the subway, Metro line 1. Unanimously with 25 “yes” vote, the capital’s assembly entrusted the Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (Centre for Budapest Transport) to prepare the plans of the constructions.
Within the renovation they will develop the capacity of the next stops: Deák Ferenc tér, Oktogon, Hősök tere. Furthermore, they will build two more stop, one at the Hungária boulevard and the new terminal will be at the Vígadó tér on the bank of the River Danube.
The expansion of the subway line is related to the plans of the 2024 Olympic Games bid of Budapest.
