Secondary students will have a chance to study positive examples of Hungarian history and traditions with a view to boosting their patriotism, the government commissioner for patriotism and defence education said on Wednesday, unveiling a quiz series that forms part of an education programme that aims to instil patriotism in citizens.
“There’s much Hungarians have to be proud of,” István Simicskó said, adding that pride, however, should be “healthy” rather than being “directed against others”.
‘More Patriotic’ National Curriculum Accepted Amid Significant Protest
The goal of the scheme is to understand and appreciate the work and values of Hungarians’ forebears as the basis for creating new values which instigate pride in the homeland through creative activities, he added.
