Parliament Elects New Constitutional Court Judge

MTI-Hungary Today 2021.06.15.

Parliament elected Zoltán Márki as a Constitutional Court judge in a secret vote on Tuesday.

Marki, who has served as the head of the penal college of the Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court, was elected with 136 votes in favour, 2 against and 3 abstentions. There were 15 invalid ballots cast in the vote.

On Monday, the National Assembly approved the appointment of Zsolt András Varga as the new president of the Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court. The post of Constitutional Court judge had remained vacant after András Zs Varga was appointed head of the Kúria.

Márki will take up his post on June 22.
