Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has sent a letter to the French president on the occasion of Bastille Day, reassuring Emmanuel Macron about the Hungarian people’s unwavering support, Orbán’s press chief said on Tuesday.
In his letter, Orbán attributed increasing importance to Hungarian-French cooperation, Bertalan Havasi told MTI.
“The French and the Hungarian are two freedom-loving nations that have not even in the toughest of times given up the cause of independence, self-determination and their freedom inherited from their ancestors,” Orbán said.
“I firmly believe that our cooperation based on shared values is becoming particularly important in this current challenging times when the future of Europe, our broader home, is at stake,” he said.
Orbán reassured Macron that in the spirit of mutual respect France can rely on the Hungarian people’s unwavering support in the realisation of common European goals and in the mitigation of effects caused by the novel coronavirus epidemic.
