Ranking Of Hungarian Top Universities – Which One Is The Best University In 2016?

On this list you can read about the three best university of Hungary. According to ranking released by the three best Hungarian universities are the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the Eötvös Loránd University and the Corvinus University of Budapest. In the’s article we can find the following top institutes located in Budapest.

Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPCU) is a state approved higher educational institution that is run by the Catholic Church and governed by the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference. The university was founded in 1635 and has been continuously operating ever since.  The PPCU currently have five faculties: the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Information Technology and the Postgraduate Institute of Canon Law, which also has faculty status.


According to the 2016 ranking of the the Pázmány Péter Catholic University is the best in the fields of information technology, law and technical studies. About the most popular faculties; the PPCU also in the top universities as it offers 6 kinds of the most popular studies.


The predecessor of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) was founded in the rural town of Nagyszombat (today: Trnava, Slovakia) in 1635 by Cardinal Péter Pázmány, as a catholic university for teaching Theology and Philosophy. In 1770-1780, the University was transferred to Buda and later to Pest, and with the support of Maria Theresa, the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, became the Royal Hungarian University. More than sixty years ago it was named after the world-famous physicist, Loránd Eötvös, who invented the torsion balance, served as Rector of the University and President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in the early 20th c. By the end of the 19th c. ELTE became one of the 15 most prestigious universities in the world. The ELTE have eight faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Education and Psychology, Faculty of Informatics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Primary and Pre-School Education, Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education.

The Eötvös Loránd University ranked as the best one in the fields of Humanities and Educational studies. About the most popular faculties; the ELTE was ranked in the first place according to The most prestigious university of Hungary offers 7 kinds of the most wanted and popular trainings.


Corvinus University of Budapest was founded in 1853. The School for Practical Gardening (1853-1860) was the first institution of horticultural professional training in Hungary. The school was founded and managed by the well-known horticultural scholar and publicist Dr Ferenc Entz (1805-1877), who was also a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. By virtue of the resolution adopted by the Hungarian Parliament, the University took on the name “Corvinus University of Budapest” as of September 1. Corvinus University of Budapest operates with 3 faculties from this year; the Faculty of Economics, the Corvinus Business School, Faculty of Social Sciences and International Relations.


The Corvinus University is in the top 3 universities also, as it has the best trainings in Economic and Social Studies by the ranking.

In the three most common technical specializations the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is the top university. In the field of medical studies the Semmelweis University is the absolute winner.

The also released their list of the best universities of Hungary. On this collection we can see the best 10 faculties of Hungary. The ELTE’s Faculty of Human studies and Social Studies was ranked as the best in draw with the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Semmelweis University. Surprisingly on HVG’s ranking we cannot even find the Corvinus University of Budapest. However, there are universities of the countryside in this top 10 collection such as Human Studies at University of Szeged (4), the Faculty of Humanities at University of Pécs (5), and the Faculty of Medicine at University of Debrecen (6).

The above-mentioned list was compiled by combining the results of students’ and professors’ rankings. The final list, then, is a combination of the number of the students, the number of professors with terminal degrees, and of those professors who are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. They also included in their calculations accepted applicants for next year, and separately tabulated those applicants with successful language exams as well.
