Subsidies for home purchase and renovation are among the most important elements of the government’s support for families, Katalin Novák, the minister for families, said on public radio on Sunday.
If families have work and a roof over their heads, their feeling of security is much greater; young people are more inclined to have children and start a family if they know that they have a home where they can have those children, Novák said on Kossuth Rádió.
She noted that the government’s home creation programme had helped families for five years and would be expanded from January 1.
Novák said preferential loans up to 6 million forints (EUR 16,800) for home renovation – a measure announced by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Saturday – would be available from February 1.
The government will repay half of the principal of the loans when the renovation is completed.
The terms of the loan are limited to ten years, Novák said.
