New US Ambassador Colleen Bell Arrives In Hungary To Take Up Her Post

By Ferenc Sullivan // 2015.01.19.

New US Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bradley Bell has arrived to her new place of service, the Hungarian capital Budapest.

Ms. Bradley Bell was received on behalf of the government by Levente Magyar, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations (KKM) responsible for economic diplomacy at Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport on Monday afternoon. The new US ambassador, whose appointment was approved by the Senate last December, declined to comment to the press.

In a brief press statement to mark Ms. Bradley Bell’s arrival, Mr. Magyar highlighted that the Hungarian government welcomes the ambassador with utmost openness and affection, saying that [the cabinet] “is looking forward to working together with marked optimism”.

The State Secretary explained that the government is convinced that in the near future, a dialogue will evolve between Hungary and the US which, unlike previous months, will navigate relations in a constructive direction. The basis of this is definitely present because economic and military cooperation between the two parties has never been as outstanding and strong as now, he said. The State Secretary added that with Colleen Bell’s arrival, the United States’ highest-level diplomatic representation has, at long last, resumed, following an almost two-year period in the absence of an US ambassador.

The Foreign Ministry’s press department told the state news agency MTI that after the new US ambassador will hand over her credentials to President János Áder on Wednesday, she will be received for dinner by Minister Péter Szijjártó for dinner on Thursday evening.
