New Liget Project Phase to Renew 80,000 Sqm of Parkland

Some 80,000 square metres of Budapest’s City Park will be renewed and 200 trees will be planted in the current phase of the Liget Project in the next one year, László Baán, the ministerial commissioner in charge of the programme, said on Monday.

Baán said that the project was “the largest gardening and landscaping programme in Hungary’s history” adding further green areas to the park and renewing the existing vegetation.

So far, nearly 150,000 square metres of the park have been renewed, and 72,000 square metres of paving removed, Baán said. Nearly 500 trees, over 70,000 shrubs and 140,000 perennials have been planted, he added.
