Foreign Ministry: Western Balkans EU Accession Important for Security, Economy

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.02.28.

The EU accession of countries of the Western Balkans would be important from the point of view of security, migration and the economy, a foreign ministry official said on Thursday.

The European Union, too, has a pragmatic interest in the process, Levente Magyar, the foreign ministry’s parliamentary state secretary, said at a conference organised by the Institute of Foreign Affairs.

“We are closer than ever to making big strides in integration,” he said.

Hungary would find it unacceptable were Serbia and Montenegro not to become EU members by 2025, he said.
