According to Hungarian news service MTI, German auto manufacturers Audi and Mercedes both saw their car sales in Hungary increase in 2016.
Audi passenger car sales rose by 14%, to 2,503, while Mercedes sales rose by 34.5%, to 2,751. These two brands, together with BMW, make up the vast majority of premium auto sales in Hungary.
In 2016, Mercedes enjoyed a 2.85% share of the Hungarian auto market. The brand is expecting double digit sales growth in the coming year as well; in particular, they expect especially strong growth in the SUV category, where sales went up 80% in the last year alone.
In addition, Mercedes is active in the commercial vehicle market as well. According to statistics from Datahouse, in 2016 Mercedes sold 381 light commercial vehicles, 673 heavy commercial vehicles and 85 buses in Hungary last year.
For Audi, about 80% of all new sales last year came from corporations.
In Hungary, the premium auto segment makes up roughly 7-8% of the entire personal vehicle market. In total, 96,555 new personal vehicles were sold in Hungary last year, which is a 25% increase over 2015.
