Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has greeted Hungarians around the world in a letter on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1848/49 revolution and freedom fight, Bertalan Havasi, the prime minister’s press chief, told MTI.
“March 15, 1848 is a symbol of our freedom, national independence and unity,” Orbán wrote.
On this day, he said, Hungarians remember the heroes of the revolution who proved on the battlefield that they put the homeland before all else.
The prime minister said this principle “still teaches us that we can only win if we proudly embrace our language, culture and national symbols”. The prime minister wrote that
Because just as in 1848, it still holds true today that only strong and confident nations that act together can stand firm in the face of imperialist threats”
“That is why when we remember the revolution and freedom fight, we see before us men and women who set an example for Europe by putting their country first and by being brave enough to fight even an overpowering force for the freedom of their shared homeland,” he added.
