M3 Metro Line Renovation: Plans for Station Redesigns Revealed

Visual designs of the stations to be renovated on Budapest’ M3 Metro line have just been revealed. Compared to the M4 Metro line 4 stations, it is obvious that these stations will be much more modest.

Renovation works on the northern section of the M3 started in November of last year. In the first part of the reconstruction project, the northern half of the metro line will be closed down for approximately a year. These stations are Dózsa György út, Árpád híd, Forgách utca, Gyöngyösi utca, Újpest-városkapu and Újpest-központ. The modernization of the tunnel has started simultaneously, and is expected to last until the end of 2020.

In the meantime, a new public procurement has been launched for the renovation of the other sections of the M3.

The M3 metro line is the longest and busiest line of the capital’s metro system, traversing Budapest from north to south and serving more than 500,000 commuters every day.
