Luxembourg Foreign Minister Calls Orbán “Tumor” on EU

By Hungary Today // 2018.04.10.

Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said the EU would have to take “firm action” in light of the election victory by Hungary’s Fidesz party and remove the “malignancies” appearing in the European Union’s common values.

Asselborn was quoted Monday as telling German daily Die Welt:

Today it is Hungary and Poland, tomorrow others in eastern and central Europe, even a big founding country of the EU, could develop a taste for undermining values and scaremongering.

Asselborn, a member of the European People’s Party, said Germany and France along with all member states that “aren’t counting on indifference, need to weigh in unambiguously on the basis of the European treaties to neutralize this tumor of values.”

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó responded that Asselborn’s comments were “of no interest” since he was not included in the register of Hungarian voters.
