Lottery players in Hungary will pick their five lucky numbers from a field of 90 this week in a bid to win the second-highest jackpot in the game’s history. The prize has been amassing since last autumn, since which nobody has been able to hit the five winning numbers.
After no ballots were found with the winning numbers 12, 25, 30, 46 and 51 in the 21th week of 2015, the prize has risen to squarely HUF 5 billion by this week. The largest-ever lottery win in Hungary, HUF 5.2 billion, was reaped by a lucky winner in November 2003.
The present prize is the second-biggest since the modern form of lottery was launched in Hungary in early 1957. The millions of lottery tickets sold each week by the state firm Szerencsejáték Zrt. are an important contribution to the country’s national budget.
