Recently, travel site Lonely Planet collected the best destinations, journeys, and sustainable travel experiences for 2020, and Budapest has been ranked second on the list, preceding Madhya Pradesh in India, Buffalo, NY in the United States, and Belgrade, Serbia.
The Lonely Planet list focuses on the best value destinations around the globe, basically for Western tourists who are looking for cheap destinations that offer the best value for their prices. The article highlights that Budapest is one of the most rewarding on your pocket “while serving up highlights memorable enough to rank high on continental explorers’ lists of big-hitters.”
Lonely Planet recommends the city’s famous thermal baths, where for “only a few dollars” people can spend a whole day of relaxation. It also highlights the buzzing night life: the wine bars and the edgy ruin bars in the party district, the exquisite buildings, the art nouveau wonders and the city’s renowned cafe culture.
The website even recommends photo destinations for Instagrammers, saying that the Keleti railway station is “the best place to arrive in or depart Budapest,” a great place to take photos for social media.
The other places that made it to the list include Indonesian Island East Nusa Tenggara as the leading place, while Madhya Pradesh in India made third place. The rivals of Budapest on the list are Serbia, Belgrade and Athens as well. Lonely Planet highlighted Belgrade’s party scene by the Danube, the rural baths and monasteries, while in Athens they emphasized that most of the city’s best attractions are free of charge and the food is also cheap.
