By 5pm on Sunday, 42.69 percent of the around 8 million eligible voters had cast their ballots in Hungary’s local elections, the National Election Office said.
A total of 3,426,129 people went to the polls before 5pm, the office said. Voter participation in the 2014 local elections was 39.82 percent by 5.30pm.
In the counties turnout was the highest in western Hungary’s Vas, 48.66 percent, and the lowest in eastern Hungary’s Hajdu-Bihar, 37.04 percent.
Voter participation in Budapest stood at 44.07 percent at 5pm.
