LMP: Chief Medical Officer ‘Admits Abandoning’ Patients at Home

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.05.03.

Green opposition party LMP said on Sunday that Cecília Müller, Hungary’s chief medical officer had “admitted” that the government had “abandoned” the patients discharged from hospitals to free beds for patients infected by the novel coronavirus.

Board secretary of the party, Máté Kanász-Nagy told an online press conference that the party had inquired about further measures regarding patients who were discharged “from one day to the other” when hospitals were instructed to free 60 percent of their beds for potential epidemic patients.

In her response, Cecília Müller said there were no further measures planned, Kanász-Nagy said. The government is therefore providing no help for those patients, and local governments do not have the means for that task, Kanász-Nagy said, adding that the situation shone a light on how underdeveloped home care services were in Hungary.
