LMP Calls for Railway Line Bypassing Budapest

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.02.06.

The opposition LMP has called on the government to construct a railway line bypassing Budapest to ease the load of freight traffic on the city, party board member István Bajkó-Sokoray told a press conference on Thursday.

Bajkó-Sokoray said the planned “1,000 billion forint [EUR 3.0bn] reconstruction” of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line would cross through south Budapest, raising the area’s freight traffic by 40 percent and increasing noise and vibration.

He called on the government to suspend the investment until they find a solution “to divert Hungary’s busiest future railway line from a residential area in downtown Budapest”.
