The most significant development of the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Pannon Park Biodome, was selected to win the award for best leisure facility in Europe at the International Property Awards.

The designer of the biodome, Paulinyi-Reith & Partners (P-RP), said Wednesday that the project’s main contractor, Market Builder Zrt., utilized modern engineering and construction solutions during the process. Gergely Paulinyi said P-RP’s core values for the project were sustainability and innovation and added that the hill-like hall structure will be suitable for showcasing a closed ecosystem year-round.

Director of Sustainability András Reith highlighted the technology and design tools used during construction as they facilitate a convenient visitor experience. The 17,000-square-foot area will house the ancient plants and wildlife which once populated the Carpathian Basin.

The company has received many prestigious international honors including the award for Mixed-use Development in 2010 for the Corvin Promenade at the Bloomberg International Property Awards and the award for best interior in 2013-2014 for the Buddha-Bar Hotel at the International Hotel Awards.
