Let Us Introduce The New “Actress of the Nation”: Mari Csomós

Hungarian actress Katalin Berek has passed away at the age of eighty-seven. After the death of Katalin Berek, who was an Actor of the Nation, a new recipient of state award has been chosen. Mari Csomós was awarded and has been chosen as the Actor of the Nation.

The election was held in the National Theater. Actors can be elected to be the Actor of the Nation who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of Hungarian dramatic art, performing Hungarian national literature, and cultivating the Hungarian language. The award is granted by decision of the committee of the living Actors of the Nation.


Mari Csomós is a 73 year-old actress. She studied at the Academy of Drama in Budapest between 1961 and 1965. In the beginning of her carrier, she played in many regional theaters throughout Hungary. She started in Veszprém, then she moved to Kecskemét and Szolnok. Between 1978 and 1983, she was on the stage of the National Theater of Hungary in Budapest. She is also a co-founder of the Katona József Theater.

As an actress, Mari Csomós has been seen in movies such as “Még kér a nép”, released in 1972, “Várakozók” (1975) as A Dada, “Kalandorok” (2008).
