Széchenyi Medicinal Bath of Budapest has been awarded to this year’s best international thermal bath by the International Medical Travel Journal. The independent, international jury awarded the best health tourism facilities in 21 categories. Baths with proved healing power could apply to the competition.
The Széchenyi Bath and Spa is one of the biggest of its kind in Europe, since it was opened for the public in 1913. Visitors can enjoy the 76 °C thermal water coming from 1246 metres deep in Renaissance-style surroundings.
László Szőke, director of Budapest Gyógyvizei és Hávizei Zrt. (Thermal Waters of Budapest Inc.), the company overseeing the capital’s thermal baths, said that the prize is an international recognition of the all-round renovation of one of the capital’s prime landmarks over the past years.
Designed by architect Győző Czigler, the spa’s ornate building houses the largest medicinal baths on the continent.
