The opposition Socialists, Párbeszéd, Democratic Coalition (DK) and Momentum parties are fielding joint mayoral candidates in most districts of Budapest in the autumn local council elections, the head of the Socialists’ Budapest chapter said on Saturday.
The joint candidates, picked after a couple of months of negotiations, stand the best chance of beating the candidates of governing Fidesz, said Zsolt Molnár. The Socialist candidates that will run in the elections are Gergely Őrsi in District II, László Kiss in District III, Kata Tüttő in District V, Csaba Somlyódi in District X, József Tóth in District XIII, Csaba Horváth in District XIV, Sándor Szaniszló in District XVIII, Péter Gajda in District XIX, Ákos Szabados in District XX and Mónika Takács in District XXI, he added.
We want a Budapest, where civil society is regarded as a partner and where working for a local council is a value, not a task to overwhelm”
DK candidates will run in six districts: Péter Niedermüller in District VII, Imre László in District XI, Norbert Élő in District XII, Angéla Németh in District XV, Gábor Nemes in District XVI and Erzsébet Németh in District XVII.
Párbeszéd’s Márta Naszályi Váradi will run in District I, while a decision on the candidate for District IX has still not been taken.
Momentum’s Tibor Déri will run in District IV, Tamás Soproni in District VI and Gábor Havasi in District XXII.
