There were 7.6% more holiday accommodation bookings in Hungary in June and 6.8% more in the first six months of 2014 compared to previous year’s similar periods, revealed Central Statistics Office on Friday, reported by news agency MTI. The number of bookings made by foreigners and Hungarians both rose as the sector enjoys considerable financial growth as well.
Foreign visitors to Hungary booked 7.3% more accommodation, while the number of Hungarian guest nights also rose by 7.9 in June, compared to last year. The gross income of hotels and apartments also rose by 9%, or EUR 98 million (30.8 billion HUF), while the first six months saw a EUR 453 million (HUF 142 billion) increase.
Coming to Hungary, tourists decided to spend altogether 1 million and 172 thousand nights in the country, sleeping at professional accommodation, as the number of guests rose by 7.8%, while their days spent here by 7.3%. The most number of tourists continue to come from Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria, while Poland also enjoyed a recent surge in visitors.
Domestic tourism also boasts great numbers as Hungarians spent 1 million 192 thousand vacation nights in country, which is a 11% rise in visitors and 7.9% in guest nights, compared to June 2013. There are 3034 accommodations in Hungary, including hotels, apartments and campings, where average utilization of hotel rooms was 54%. (MTI)
