Zoltán Kovács, the state secretary for international communication and relations, said that Hungary and Poland had successfully protected the monies they are due in a debate surrounding the European Union budget.
Kovács said on Facebook that US financier George Soros was disappointed because he had promoted the view for several years that countries rejecting migrants should not receive community funding.
“He has failed to achieve this. We have not given in to blackmail. Hungary and Poland have protected the money of Hungarians and Poles,” he said.
The Hungarian and Polish governments represented common sense in the debate when they insisted that help must not be tied to political conditions at the time of a pandemic, Kovács said.
