Central-Eastern European Academy of Oncology ‘Great Opportunity’, says Minister

MTI-Hungary Today 2020.01.24.

The Central-Eastern European Academy of Oncology set up last year offers great opportunities in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research, the human resources minister said at the academy’s founding meeting in Budapest on Thursday.

International cooperation will provide opportunities for the region, Miklós Kásler said.

The main aims include prevention, coordination between central European countries’ cancer treatment programmes and setting up a network of coordinated treatment protocols, Kásler said. The academy will take on the oncological care of 260 million people, he said, based on a professional network and a clear-cut definition of treatment stages, he said.

The academy will lay down guidelines on the optimal courses of action in all stages, he said, to be used flexibly, in view of the various types of cancer. The institute’s activities will encompass prevention, early diagnosis, scans, diagnostics, therapy and trainings, Kásler said.

Kásler called for “energy, capacity and funds” to be invested into the development of screening methods for oral and lung cancers.
