The government will not consent to releasing any convicted criminal before their prison term is served, the justice minister said on Tuesday.
Judit Varga reacted to remarks by Democratic Coalition lawmaker Ágnes Vadai, who said earlier in the day that “the government might release thousands of criminals”.

Contrary to Vadai’s suggestions, the government is working to introduce even stricter probation rules, the minister said. She noted that the government had introduced a stricter penal code, as a result of which the number of serious crimes has been halved.
