Judo: Two Hungarians Win Bronze Medals At Düsseldorf Grand Prix

Hungarian female judokas Hedvig Karakas and Abigél Joó have both won bronze medals at a Grand Prix event held in Düsseldorf in the World Cup Olympic qualifier series.
57-kilo Ms. Karakas, who came third at Judo World Championships, won against a Chinese, a Japanese and a German rival but was beaten by Brazilian Rafalela Silva. In the repechage, she first won against South Korean Jan Di Kim by yuko and gainst Taiwanese Lien Chenling by ippon at the bronze match.
Two-times European champion Ms. Joó beat a British and a Polish rival to make it to semi-finals, where she lost against Slovenian Anamari Velensek by ippon. At the match for third place, she then won by yuko against Dutchwoman Guusje Steenhuis.
As for further Hungarian results, male contestant László Csoknyai (81 kg) came fifth and Barbara Maros (52 kg) seventh at the Grand Prix event in Germany, which saw 542 judokas from 75 countries take to the tatami.
