Yesterday evening, former vice president and the current Democratic presidential nominee in the upcoming US elections, Joe Biden, commemorated the 1956 Hungarian revolution on his official Twitter page.
Biden wrote that on 23rd October, 1956, “freedom-loving Hungarians revolted against communist rule,” which later inspired the Prague Spring, other revolts around Europe and ultimately the fall of the Berlin wall.
64 years ago today, freedom-loving Hungarians revolted against communist rule. Their spirit inspired the Prague Spring, Poland’s Solidarity movement, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. As president, I’ll always stand in defense of democracy and freedom at home and around the world.
