Following the Manchester terror attack, the British Security Service MI5 mapped the 48 countries where they believe a terrorist attack is most likely to occur.
On MI5’s map, the threat level in the UK, Germany and France has been raised to “critical”. In spite of this the, eastern part of Europe looks like an island of peace and safety, at least in this regard. Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and the three Baltic states are colored green on the terror threat level map.
Meanwhile, as the map below shows, there are now more than 45 countries around the world where the Foreign Office believes a terror attack is “very likely” to be attempted.
It is worth noting, however, that this map deals only with terror threats; it does not even remotely reflect the overall security situation in the overall country. For example, some countries that have high crime and violence rates, such as Mexico, are colored green on this map, due to the fact that the threat of terror attacks specifically is low.
The UK terror threat level, assessed by MI5, is a fluid assessment, with five categories ranging from “low” to “critical”.
Hungary is not even in the top 50 destinations where a terror attack is “highly likely”. In the view of British intelligence, the most dangerous places are:
- Burkina Faso
- Burma (Myanmar)
Out of the European countries, France is ranked as the 13th, Germany the 14th and Spain as the 40th in terms of their likelihood to be targeted for terror attacks.
