IEA Brings Education Research To The “Heart of Europe”

Robert Velkey 2017.10.11.

The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) is holding its annual conference in Budapest from Tuesday to Friday.

Around one hundred experts from over 40 countries, as well as representatives of UNESCO and the European Union, will attend the conference. The event is being co-organized by Hungary’s Education Office, the office said.

IEA was founded in 1958 as an international cooperative of national research institutions, government research agencies, scholars and analysts working to evaluate, understand and improve education worldwide. The IEA is a nonprofit and independent organization. More than 60 countries are actively involved in the network of the organization, and over 100 education systems participate in its studies.

Some of the IEA surveys are periodically repeated, such as TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) or PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study).

Hungary has been a member of IEA since 1968.
