New car registrations in Hungary went up by an annual 15.8% to 9,336 in July, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) said.
New car registrations in January-July at 64,138 were up by 18.7% compared to the same period of 2016. Sales of heavy commercial vehicles rose by 8.5% to 3,229 in the first seven months of this year. Motorcycle registrations climbed by 28.8% to 285 in July but rose just by 3.6% to 1,649 in the first seven months of the year. Sales of heavy trailers increased by 15.2% to 341 in July and were up by 15.8% at 2,342 in the first seven months. Sales of light commercial vehicles dropped by 12% to 1,399 in July and were down by 12.4% at 10,265 in January-July. MGE forecasts the total number of new car registrations would exceed 100,000 in 2017.
According to a fresh report by autocar.co.uk, the most commoly purchased new car in Hungary is the Suzuki Vitara, which is produced in Suzuki’s Hungarian factory in the town of Esztergom. The Japanese carmaker sold a total of 3952 Vitara units in 2016 in Hungary. Meanwhile, the Skoda Octavia sold 2626 down in second place, and the Opel Astra has sold 2111.
